I’ll make this one long... ok, longer than the others. Just within the family: mom with everything that she does, she does it for us kids. I really appreciate her even though at times I don’t mention it. After a while, it becomes the norm that it’s no longer special. Although today, she waited up for me after work and asked if I wanted dinner. I haven’t had night shifts in a while so to me, it was special. And she still does my laundry and cook me dinner. Makes me coffee in the morning when I have exams. Makes my lunch. Oh god, she spoils me! That’s it, it stops here. Honestly how old am I? I better start doing things myself. Moving along, brother cooks for me and I’ll return the favour by washing the dishes. If he goes out and leaves me home alone, he’ll come home with food. Text me before an exam wishing me luck. Dad drives me places when I don’t want to drive and does maintenance on the car because I don’t know how to change the oil. I can elaborate but I’ll leave it here for now.
That's all I've learnt in the past week. Terrible, aren't I?
I was hoping to make 4 entries this month but it didn't happen. Maybe May will be more interesting after all there's mother's day and dad's b'day.. Hmm?
I love rainy days.. especially when you're indoors. I came home a bit wet though. My pants are all too long that they get wet at the heels. And to come home to a relaxing shower and laze around in trackies -- the best. Yes, I'll have to get some study done soon, another midterm coming up. Although I'm not a fan of Public transport during these days (not that I ever was, which is besides the point). People are so rude. I hate the pushing and shoving when you're around International students. Like ... you're gonna get a spot anyway. And if you were that eager in getting to uni in time, wake up that little bit earlier to catch an earlier train! I don't understand why there are still people who don't invest in a travel10. It's so much quicker and you save a dollar? I thought maybe it was because people only ocassional catch the bus and can't fork out the money but then you see the same people always catching the bus everyday (more or less).
Haha, and sending random comments to my cousin when I'm studying. She's the only one that can put up with it, maybe because she knows that I'm a bit 'special'. Haha. WeeeEee.. I think I'll aim in blogging frequently with shorter entries than 'once in a blue moon'. I typed a long email to my uncle the other day (1,287 words to be exact) and he expected more? Like wtf? So I don't know why I'm struggling to expand on this entry. I think it was because I was complaining that I got fined from the library. It wasn't even my fault. I went to renew the book on the day on the net but it didn't let me and instead notified me that I have been fined. Not happy. And we're going to the Gold Coast this year. I'm not sure if I'm going to go though but I wanna get souvenirs -- is that how you spell it? I remember pronouncing and therefore spelling it as 'silvenir' as a kid. Yes, I am spastic and the terms you need to learn in biochemistry. Insane. I wanna go down to Melbourne some time. I've even planned one with Jamie for next year because I was so desperate. Sad. But yeah, haven't been there in ages. Last time was end of year 10? So 2003. I feel so old at times. My biochem demonstator mentioned that she was 21 years old. And I went she's one year older than me. ... I'm old. And then I realise that I'm only 19 going on 20 this year. Not looking forward to hitting the big TWO-0, no more being a teeny bopper. What else? I've been swearing heaps. The '...' in this entry were substituted for well you know. It's pretty bad. Everytime I get agitated, which is a lot nowadays, out comes ... It's really bad! I'd probably do a rate of one per hour but considering how much I sleep. It'd average out as 15 times/day. Family isn't happy about it. I guess I sound vulgar?
Just to end, planning on getting some study done and go bag hunting as well for ANZAC day. I need a BIGGER bag.
I hope I continue getting 'My firsts...' as I get older -- remember those 'My first book, my first word', etc? Well those, the good and the bad but mainly the good. Hahaha.
It's only Week 3? It feels like I've been there forever! Nothing much
has changed since the last post so I'll be brief about that topic:
- still struggling with the workload
- haven't even opened the 3 textbooks that I bought
- been skipping my lectures or arriving 1/2 hr late to them. Eeekk!
- forgotten my fone again and on that day I get calls and msgs. The days that I don't -- nothing!
- been getting cravings for fast food and shamelessly been satisfying them
- been sleeping heaps!
I don't have many breaks (if any) during the week and so I haven't been to mac centre - to me, it's so far - because I was hoping to get a few things and check out a new store -- Kikki-K (www.kikki-k.com.au)! It's a stationery store similar to Smiggle but I think it's heaps better (professional looking but more expensive). It's awesome in there although I'm a bit biased because I LOVE stationery! Their designs are simplistic but effective and appealing at the same time. Next b'day coming up, expect a pressie from there! Hrm, why am I advertising them?
Anyhow, I've finally gotten a diary so maybe I'll be more organised now. Maybe.. I still need to get a lot more other stuff but I'm broke at the moment.
And the social scene? I'm gonna try and make the effort to catch up with people. I haven't seen Leanne or Jamie in a while -- Leanne especially! Where the hell is my tour? Hahahaa. It's terrible. The moment I get to usyd, it's straight to Carslaw and then Anderson. I haven't had the chance to go exploring yet (mainly because I'm cramming for their weekly tests)!
I forgot to mention in my last post. My neighbour got a puppy. I remember getting woken up by its 'yapping' and thinking did we get a dog? rofL! I've never lived with neighbours with pets before: it's not too bad, you hear the occasional 'yapping'. I want a dog!
Ok, enough of me!
I was hoping to blog about my first week of uni on the weekend but I didn't get around to it. Now it's a whole blur to me, I'm terrible. The Sunday before uni started, we had lunch and dinner at aunt's. I couldn't stay for dinner because I had work but I still managed a few games of bingo afterwards. God, I love playing it on new years. Everyone gambles, the males with 13 and the kids (and moms helping) with bingo. It was 20c a game. Any higher and none of us could afford it! It's a tradition to play on that day but aunt said we can play at Easter because we didn't play that many games.
I had an awful week at uni. At least I think (I think) I did. I can't remember. I thought practicals and tutes weren't on but I'm so glad that I decided to wear runners instead of thongs. Otherwise, I would have been allowed inside the labs! Most of my classes are packed especially chiro -- there's 50-60 of us! I'm slowly getting used to my 7 and 9 hour straight uni days; I'm eating my lunch during the lectures. I've still got to buy snacks as well. Speaking of which, I've only bought 3 books and they've already cost me an arm and a leg -- literally. They were so heavy that I developed this rash! I don't know why but travelling makes me so tired. It's not like I'm doing anything strenuous but I head straight to bed when I get home.
You can't imagine how glad I was when Friday came! Although I put off my homework for the weekend, I find I never get it done because other things that occupy my time like the weekly chores, grocery shopping -- things that are done during the weekend. Dad drove me to work one day and asked me how I was gonna balance everything on my plate, when I was gonna do my homework. I said that I'll be fine and that I'd do it that night. Funnily enough by the time I got home, I was so tired, I fell asleep. I didn't even touch my homework that weekend. Every week, we're getting continuous exams, which is a good and bad thing. The bad being that you can't put it off and not study.
I've become forgetful as well. This week alone, I've forgotten to bring my fone, wallet and gloves to uni. Yep, you heard right. I forgot my wallet. I'm glad I have such lovely friends that offered to buy me lunch and drove me to the station! One of them has a birthday coming up and I have no clue as to what to get her. I'm thinking of getting her a DVD but I'm not sure if she's already gotten it. I don't want to ask her without being suss.
And today? This morning I got a call asking if I could work today. Being the idiot that I am, I said yes. So in order to make it in time, I had to leave my tute early but public transport is very unreliable that I ended up being late to work even though I got changed in the car. Mom gave me a I-raised-you-with-manners-so-use-them-once-in-a-while look. But in all seriousness never again! I will try to say no when I really can't make it! So here I am, 1 in the morning and I've yet to do my homework and have a shower.
It's been a while. Nothing's changed since the last post but I've started uni... well not officially. Long story short, I miss out on a class because of a public holiday and to make up for it, we had to start a week early. Hold on a sec, that's the whole story. Never mind. Hahahaha.
Well this year, we're having classes at usyd. Why? Because my uni doesn't have a medical licence that allows the teaching of cadavars -- which are (if you didn't know) dead bodies. It wasn't too bad to be honest, I thought that I'd be overwhelmed by the smell (formalin) or throw up. I guess spending last year looking at anatomy textbooks has prepared me for it. I was a little grossed out ... nails were present, the eye, teeth... ARGH! But here's my point, I wonder what makes people donate their bodies for educational reasons. That didn't sound sensitive. I thought it was because they didn't have any family but we were told that they did. There's a Medical Act that requires the body to be returned to the family after 5-6 years but here's the thing. Only 75% of the body is returned. What happens to the other 25%? 25% is a lot right? Where'd a whole chunk go? Mind you the body is divided into pieces so maybe that explains it?
Friends and I didn't bother go exploring usyd. I guess I'm waiting for that tour from Leanne. Her directions there confused me but luckily my friend knew the way. All I know is Lawson --> Abercrombie. Haha. The walk isn't that bad actually, well it'd be a problem if it was pouring but we could do with some of that right now. And never if I can recall, have I gotten anything free from my uni. First day at usyd I got red frogs, a planner and an energy drink and it wasn't even o-week or anything! How awesome! I tried Mother and ... I'm not a fan of Ginseng so after a sip, I gave it to brother and he finished it in 2 gulps. Like wtf?
I've just realised that uni starts next week and I have yet to get my books. I can only imagine the lines for the bookstore! Maybe I'll get my mom to drive me there or better yet I could drive there. Hahahaa.
Chinese New Year hasn't been that great this year. There's the festival
at Warwick Farm but I think after you get over that teeny bopper stage,
it isn't that appealing anymore. My cousin wants to go though! We
haven't had the family dinner yet because grandma is still in Vietnam
but she's be back tomorrow and we're having it on Sunday. I can hardly
wait! But first I've got to finish my homework... and if you were
wondering, there's a LOT! I think that sums up my life so far, so til
next time!
It's only the 3rd week of the year. How time goes so slowly... well for me anyway. I think I'm in a rut since the same thing occurs every day -- it's like groundhog day except I don't know that each day is repeating itself. Ignorance is sure bliss (I think).
Maybe it's because I haven't got any plans and therefore nothing to look forward to? I had plans to watch a movie with Jamie but then last minute uni things pop up out of nowhere. Whoever said that spontaneity is the spice of life... hold on a second, nothing's perfect. Speaking of which, our daily (at times weekly) walks around the neighbourhood have been fun; it's more of a catch up session. Nothing trenuous but I love them regardless. Getting up early is a real pain though -- I am so not a morning person!
What else have I been up to? I borrowed some cook books involving Vietnamese cuisine. I figure that I should be able to cook something by now and with vietnamese food, mom can offer help. I've been skimming through the books and found the names of some vegetables including okra, kohlrabi and the one I absolutely love *drum roll* water spinach. Who would have thought that I'd like spinach? It just summons connotations of brussel sprouts. I've never had them before but apparently they're really awful! Working with veggies has helped me identify ones that I'd otherwise would never know. Like parsnip, fennel, swedes -- what the hell do you do with them? As you can imagine, I'm gonna be a hopeless cook but I'm learning... at a snail's pace.
And I haven't finished reading a book since God knows when. It's crazy. Insane.
Okay, that's enough for now. I'm sure I'll be back soon.
